Nesting beach protection

After 60 years of beach protection and monitoring we know that the loggerhead sea turtle population in South Africa is growing exponentially (first figure below) and the leatherback population is stable or mildly increasing (2nd figure). That means that about 1000 loggerhead females now nest on our shores each years and about 70 leatherback females.
