About us

Inspiring Change

Sea turtles are incredible animals – they are some of the most ancient reptiles still alive today, connecting oceans and people around the world. In South Africa we celebrate and care for these iconic creatures in many ways. Divers and tourists, scientists and conservationists, educators and children, local communities and businesses, we are all connected to turtles.

What we do

Research

We do a wide range of research to help us to understand turtles better. This increases our knowledge of turtles and helps us to work out better ways to protect them.

Conservation

On turtle nesting beaches we work with respected conservation leaders in South Africa  - Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Partnership

Together with partners around South Africa, we are determined to ensure the future of these iconic species. Our success is driven by the passion of our community.

We need you!

  • Please tell us about every turtle you see – on land, at sea or underwater. Your sightings can really help us to understand turtles better. Please report your turtle sightings via our Citizen Science Program.

  • If you find a stranded turtle - live or dead - please report it to the nearest rescue centre. Live stranded turtles can often be nursed back to health. From the dead ones we learn why they died to help us to better understand the threats they face.

  • Lear more about turtles – this website will give you lots of information, please share it with your friends.

  • To see a turtle.
